Our non-profit organization is dedicated to promoting the bachata dance form in Canada. We believe that every dancer deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued in the bachata community. As such, we have established a code of conduct that applies to all dancers, instructors, and volunteers at our events and classes.
We present to you this Code of Conduct in DRAFT form for your consideration.
Code of Conduct [DRAFT]
Respect for Others: Every dancer is expected to treat others with respect and dignity. Discrimination or harassment of any kind is not tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, discrimination or harassment based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or physical ability.
Consent: Dancers must obtain consent before engaging in any form of physical contact with their dance partners. This includes both leading and following. Any unwanted physical contact or inappropriate advances will not be tolerated.
Communication: Effective communication is essential for a successful dance partnership. Dancers are expected to communicate their boundaries clearly and respectfully. If a dancer feels uncomfortable with any aspect of the dance, they should communicate this to their partner and/or instructor.
Personal Hygiene: Dancers are expected to maintain proper personal hygiene to ensure the comfort and safety of their partners. This includes wearing clean and appropriate dance attire, using deodorant, and maintaining good oral hygiene.
Substance Abuse: Excessive of drugs or alcohol during dance events or classes is strictly prohibited. Dancers visibly affected by influence will not be permitted to participate.
Professionalism: Instructors and volunteers are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism at all times. This includes arriving on time, respecting the privacy of dancers, and avoiding any behavior that could be construed as unprofessional.
Reporting Inappropriate Behavior: Any dancer who experiences or witnesses inappropriate behavior, including but not limited to sexual harassment, assault, or discrimination, is encouraged to report it to a member of the organization's leadership team. All reports will be taken seriously, investigated promptly, and appropriate actions will be taken to address the situation.
By following this code of conduct, we can create a safe and welcoming environment for all dancers in the bachata community. We thank you for your cooperation and look forward to sharing our love of bachata with you.
